Swap-Bot: Digital Photo Email Scavenger Hunt - July

I signed up for my first swap-bot and here are the results of my scavenger hunt.  I had lots of fun searching for the items and of course, the fact that a camera was required made it that much more enjoyable for me.

Waves

I've been thinking about how to add interest to my fish quilt.
See original Fish post here

I've also been practising some free motion quilting on my domestic but until this head cold takes a hike I'm not willing to work on the real item.

Here's a design that appeals.  It will obviously be spread out over a greater width but the idea is there.  I used my Wacom tablet and Adobe Illustrator to play with the image.

That's all for today,

In Honour of Fred the Fish I, II, III, IV, and V

I adore goldfish.  Unfortunately, as you can tell from the title I've shared my life with a few.

I used to go to the yearly carnival and with the exorbitant cost of a quarter be allowed to toss a ping pong ball into a small glass bowl and win, yet another goldfish.   Every year, my dad would exclaim don't let her near the fish game she'll win.  Unfortunately for him some unscrupulous person would hand me a quarter and we'd have yet another goldfish that I promptly named Fred.

Many years later I was still a temporary caretaker to a series of Freds.  My kids got into the act by demanding that the next fish NOT be named Fred.  Chutney was the choice and he stayed with us for many years.

I've been working on a memorial quilt to honour Fred.  This is how he looks so far.  I haven't figured out how to attach him.  He was created using angelina fibres, film, and wire.  More on that another time.

Row by Row Experience 2015 and Ontario July Shop Hop

Hi!

I hope you have been participating in the Row by Row Experience 2015.  This is my first year doing it and I'm having a blast.  Patterns and kits are available from listed shops across North America.  Also, fabric license plates with quilt sayings on them are for sale in some of the stores.

I started collecting on Thursday and went to the shops farthest away from me.  Three friends, Crystal, Joan, and Janice are also joining in the madness.  Between the three of us we hope to get a wide ranging collection.  Friends and family have been roped into this adventure.  Some of them with great delight, others with, "You want me to do what?  Why?  What does that even mean, you want me to get you a kit and a license plate?  Seriously?"

Yes, we do want that.  Thanks so much!
Anybody else want to join in our search or have help with yours?

While this is going on until September the Ontario July Shop Hop is also going on.  Two fun reasons to get out and about to quilt stores.  The shop hop gives a fabric kit, pattern, and a passport to be stamped at the participating shops.  Each shop has designed a unique layout for this event.  My favourite so far is from Sew Creative in Mount Bridges.  When she has finished creating the pattern for it I hope to post pictures.

I've picked up Row by Row kits from Heart'n Home in New Hamburg with the beautiful adirondack chairs. Of course I had to chose at least one purple chair.

The other one I've gotten is from Sew Sisters.  I've always wanted to do a Storm at Sea quilt but wasn't sure I felt like doing a full sized version.  This one allows me to give it a try with just one row.

Hope you join in the fun.

Crazy Quilt Bag

I've been using Setacolor fabric paints for a long time now.  I love being able to get the colours I want.  This is a bag I made using scraps of painted fabric that were joined together as a crazy quilt.  The bag is very pretty but if I was to do it again I would make it larger.
The pattern came from Barbara Randle's "Crazy Quilting with Attitude".

I had lots of fun collecting interesting yarns and tassels to be used on this project.  It sits in my sewing room never taking me out.  Where's the fun in that?

Party, anyone?
